How to track customer udhaar in a small shop

4 min read

Giving udhaar builds loyalty, but only if you can collect it. These steps keep credit under control whether you use paper or an app.

1. Record it at the moment of sale

Write the customer's name, date, items and amount before they leave. Entries made later are the ones that go missing.

2. Keep one record per customer

A running balance per customer shows instantly how much is outstanding. Avoid mixing udhaar into the daily sales page.

3. Decide a limit

Choose how much credit you are comfortable giving each regular. Saying no politely is easier when the limit is already decided.

4. Record every payment

When a customer pays part of the balance, record it immediately and tell them the new total.

5. Review weekly

Once a week, look at who owes the most and for how long. Follow up early — old udhaar is the hardest to collect.
