How to manage stock in a small retail shop

5 min read

Good stock control means fewer empty shelves and less money stuck in slow items. You don't need complicated systems to start.

Start with a full count

List every product with the quantity you have today. This becomes your starting point.

Update when goods arrive

Add new stock as soon as it is delivered, not at the end of the week.

Know your fast sellers

Note the items customers ask for daily. Check those first before every market trip.

Count regularly

A short shelf count every week or two catches mistakes, damage and theft before they grow.

Watch slow items

Products that haven't moved for months tie up cash. Buy them in smaller amounts next time.
